A snowy day here at Yellowstone, mostly between the north gate and Old Faithful. Nevertheless, there were opportunities in between whiteouts. First up a pair of eagle shots. These were fishing the Yellowstone River. The second image shows an immature eagle protecting itself against a hawk who didn’t want him in the neighborhood. I also saw Sandhill [...]

Out early to catch the sunrise. My first critter of the day was a yearling moose. The wolves were active but horribly backlit. I won’t subject you to the results. The coyotes were close and extremely photogenic. I ended the day with a chipmunk who insisted that I take his picture.
Arrived in Yellowstone about noon. The weather was great all day, a mixture of lighting conditions which mostly all worked. Saw Bison, Elk, Mule Deer, Otters, Eagles, Osprey, Ravens, and Wolves. I’ve included a few shots below.

I found a nesting pair of Jays today. I watched them for a couple hours as they came and went bringing materials for their nest, sticks and mud and even a torn portion of a plastic bag.
The weather was sunny today but there was a cold wind. I caught a glimpse of one of the young in the nest. When it got too cold, mom pushed it under her to keep it protected. The pictures here show dad very agitated and ready to break up the crows that have gathered near the [...]
An active day today at Lake Hiawatha in south Minneapolis, 28th Ave side. Three Bald Eagles sitting in a tree on the north side of the lake. Only a few Red Breasted Mergansers seen. The Loons were plentiful and active. Here are a handful of images which show some of the action. Thanks for [...]
The owlets are still in the nest. As of this date, the female continues to cover the young and they have not yet been seen. Early this morning the crows began to menace them and the male went into action to protect the family. Here is a shot taken today of the male preening himself [...]
I am following a couple of different nests this year. The newborn owlets are still obscurred by the female parent, but they should be visible soon. Here of some shots of the males.
I was asked to do a presentation at the upcoming International Festival of Owls taking place the first weekend in March. Here is a video slide show that I worked up to go along with my PowerPoint. I hope you enjoy it.
